Honey Bee Hive Review And More

If you are just starting your love affair with bees and have concluded that you need to own a honey bee hive of your own, the options available to you may astound you. From the clothing you wear, the tools you use and even the bees you use, each is a new decision. However, the most important decision both for you and your bees will be what type of hive to house them in. There are plenty of options out there but one size does not fit all.

This is a very personal choice, one that will help to decide everything. Every beekeepers' situation and expectation is slightly different and therefore you should weigh those differences carefully. Some people get into beekeeping merely as a hobby or to pollinate their garden. Some are in it for it to make profits on honey and wax. No matter what you go into this adventure looking for, make sure you find it.

The only way to do this is to get a hive that will allow you to complete every step of this process in the way that you see fit. Each hive, no matter which one you choose, has its pros and cons. There is no perfect hive, nor is there a perfect way to keep bees. With that being said, there may be a "perfect" hive for you and your needs. To help you out with this decision we have done an assessment of a very popular and desired bee hive and then compared it to others in a similar price range. If nothing else this will give you an idea of the different types out there and the uses they have.

Apimaye seems to have created a honey bee hive model that achieves what few others have. They have given beekeepers the world over the ability to keep their bees in a healthy environment that is completely sealed and waterproof.

By using a high-grade UV resistant plastic to construct their hive, it can handle just about anything Mother Nature can throw it. Neither bone-chilling cold, unbearable heat, nor another in between will be a problem for your bees.

This bee hive is made for extreme weather. And since it is also made of plastic, moisture and fungus are no longer something you will have to deal with. This kit comes with everything you need to get either for first, or one of many hives started. It is easy to use, with access to every compartment without having to bother the bees too much. This hive kit is also persistent in keeping harmful pests and parasites out of the colony.

Apimaye 10 Frame Langstroth Insulated Honey Bee Hive Set Product Specs

This unique Langstroth style honey bee hive is made from a UV resistant plastic. It is designed to better handle weather and the extreme elements than its wooden counterparts. This model is completely sealed making it waterproof.

This allows the bees to focus their attentions on making comb and building their brood and not sealing the hive to make it more weather resistant.

This also stops pests, mites or predators from entering the hive. To aid in this endeavor is a screened bottom board and an entrance reducer. The components that the hive is made of are helpful in insulation and protection of the bees against the chilling cold of winter and the melting heat of summer. This aids to cut down on condensation buildup and therefore eradicates the fungus growth that is so common in wooden hives. In keeping the hive at a more comfortable temperature during the winter, it ensures that the bees will not need to eat as much honey to stay warm and alive. This will increase your honey production year after year.

The dimensions of this hive are the same as any standard Langstroth, ensuring that you can use either plastic or wooden frames interchangeably if you desire. This honey bee hive kit comes with 20 plastic frames although they do not contain foundations. You can add these if you want to easily or go without for a more natural comb. Apimaye has also included frame spacers, a top feeder, a queen excluder and division/uniting boards.

The easy-to-use top feeder has a cover that makes it extremely easy to feed your hive without drowning them or opening the hive completely. This makes sure that your bees are not interrupted as often and keeps them much more docile. Unlike most Langstroths, this kit also has a pollen trap and drawer. This part of the hives catches all of the unused pollen and collects in an easy to access slide-out drawer near the bottom of the hive.

These come with wax coated black plastic foundations to take the added work of building their comb from scratch off of the bees.

There is also a separate section in the hive box just for the queen. This way she can focus on her job of laying eggs without distractions or alarming any of the other bees. The included bottom board is screened to improve ventilation and keep intruders getting in. This honey bee hive is quite a bit different from the rest here in this article. While it looks similar and has some characteristics that are like the others, it is designed for a different process for the bees. This is classified as a Warre hive, not a Langstroth. What this means is that while it comprises two stackable hive boxes and has ventilated cover and base with two support legs, it does not house frames. Instead, it has 18 top bars. This enables the bees to build their honeycomb from scratch to hang down from the top bars.

It also means there is not as much support for the comb so removing a top bar with full comb attached may be a little more difficult for the novice. This model of Warre hive is smaller in terms of the size of the hive boxes than its Langstroth counterparts. This is to mimic the average size and shape of a bee's natural wild habitat. This also means that the combs will not be as large and therefore honey production is not as high. This Warre, like most, has a pitched or angled roof to keep rain and the elements away from the bees.

It has a screened-in base with a sliding door for adjustable airflow control. It includes a quilt box that is required for insulation and ventilation for Warre hives. This model even has two viewing windows. This makes checking on your combs and bees a breeze and also cuts down on disrupting the bees and their process just to inspect.
