WHAT AND WHERE IS BEE CAVE TEXAS? – HUMBLE BEGINNINGS
After the population of Austin reached 900 people, Dietrich Bohls was looking for a new quiet home to raise his family away from the hustle and bustle of the big city. Going west of the city, he arrived at the confluence of Barton Creek and Little Barton Creek, an area that was inhabited by Indians, and there were few other settlers in the area. The Bohls would become one of the first families to settle in the area. The land would later become the City of Bee Cave, located in Western Travis County and named after the colonies of Mexican honeybees that populated the area.
In 1987, the City of Bee Cave was formed, a two-mile area with an additional 8,800 acres beyond the city's boundaries that falls under the city's legal jurisdiction. Bee Cave was originally classified as the Village of Bee Cave and was a Type-A General Law City. In 2006, a motion was made to rename the Village of Bee Cave to the City of Bee Cave. In February 2013, a commission formed and a new Home Charter was approved by voters in May. Upon the approval of the Home Charter, a City Council was elected consisting of a mayor and five additional members. The Mayor and City Council members are elected to two-year staggered terms.

BEE CAVE POPULATION
After reading about the population, no wonder many people wonder “where is Bee Cave Texas.” According to the 2000 census, Bee Cave's population was 656 people in 207 households with the density at 252 people per square mile. The racial makeup of the city includes 94.21 percent white,.15 percent Native American,.15 percent Asian, 3.51% from other races and 1.98% mixed races. Hispanic or Latino accounted for 7.62 percent of the population.
Of the 207 households surveyed, 50.2 percent had children under the age of 18, 79.7 percent were married, 2.4 percent consisted of a house with an unmarried female, and 16.9 percent were non-families. Individuals made up 9.7 percent of households, and 2.4% was a single person who was at least 65 years of age.
In the city, the median age is 36 years, while one-third of the population is under the age of 18 and 3.8 percent from 18 to 24, 34.8 percent from 25 to 44, 23.2 percent from 45 to 64, and 5.2 percent were above the age of 65.

The median household income in 2015 for Bee Cave was $129,270 with the median home value at $597,091. Males had a higher median income at $100,000, while females had a median income of $59,000. For the city, the per capita income was $53,911. Of the entire city population, not one family was living below the poverty line.
BEE CAVE SIZE
In 2010, the United States Census Bureau reported the city to have a total area of 2.6 square miles. Upon becoming a city in 2013, Bee Cave nearly tripled in size and increased to 6.8 square miles.
Bee Cave does not provide utilities. Residents are served by other utility agencies. Bee Cave is served by the West Travis County Public Utility Agency (WTCPUA), a publicly owned water and wastewater utility. In addition to Bee Cave, WTCPUA serves western Travis and northern Hays Counties.
BEE CAVE ATTRACTIONS
A popular destination is the Bee Cave Sculpture Park, which resides on a seven-acre natural setting and features a combination of permanent and temporary sculptures. Along with the art, it includes a spring-fed pond, commanding oak trees and over 20 different species of plants.
The Benches of Bee Cave is a program with the mission to improve the esthetics of Bee Cave's public spaces. Located in the Hill Country Galleria, the benches bring art to the community in an effort to unite the public through functional works of art.
Bee Cave Central park is located southwest of the intersection of RR 620 South and Bee Cave Parkway. A 50-acre park space was donated by Mr. Robert Baldwin as a part of the Hill Country Galleria Development Agreement. The park features a large and small pavilion with playscapes and public bathrooms. The park can be reserved by residents and non-residents.
The Bee Cave Dog Park caters to the city's four-legged residents. Located just below the small pavilion on the south end of the Bee Cave Central Park at 13676 Bee Cave Parkway, the park has separate enclosures for small and large dogs.
Bee Cave Public Library is located on the first floor of Bee Cave City Hall in the Hill Country Galleria.
Bee Cave/Falconhead West Primitive Park is in the Falconhead West Neighborhood off of Patagonia Pass. Offering hiking and bike trails, the trails are divided into four color-coded segments, ranging in length from .5 to 1.5 miles, totaling 3.6 miles.
Bee Cave hosts the Lone Star Farmers Market every Sunday from 10am-2pm in the LOWE'S Parking Lot. The market provides the community with local produce and farm products.
Served by the Lake Travis Independent School District, Bee Cave has three elementary schools, Bee Cave Elementary School in Bee Cave, Lake Pointe Elementary School in an unincorporated area and Lakeway Elementary School in Lakeway. All three serve the city. Most of Bee Cave is served by Lake Travis Middle School, and Hudson Bend serves areas in the city's northwest. For high school, the entire city is served by Lake Travis High School, which is located in an unincorporated area.
A main driver of the Bee Cave economy is the American Campus Communities, which is headquartered in the Hill Country Galleria shopping development. The offices opened in 2010. The Hill Country Galleria opened in 2007 and is a 1.3 million-square-foot mixed-use lifestyle center featuring 650,000 feet of retail space, 145,000 square feet of Class A office space, 300,000 square feet of multifamily housing, 80,000 square feet for retail pads, 100,000 square feet of condominiums and 50 acres of green area.
With its close proximity to the thriving city of Austin, Bee Cave is a fast-growing community with several neighborhoods. Popular subdivisions of Bee Cave include Homestead, The Uplands, Falconhead, Ladera, Meadow Fox, Wildwood, The Grove and Lake Point.
